Special Needs Services - Autism
The diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder can be distressing, but there are many networks of parents who share your issues, and several resources for deciding on interventions and services. A good starting point is the Autism Society of America, (phone 1-800-328-8476). Another web site contains a map of the United States on which you can point and click on any state to find resources (http://209.200.89.252/search_site/chapter_map.cfm).

Both sites contain links for parent groups. You should also contact your local early intervention (Part C) program to find out about services. If your child is over the age of 3 years, contact your local school district - they are required by law to provide free special educational services for children with disabilities, which might include your child with pervasive developmental disorder.
