Health and Safety Program FAQs

  • Who is eligible to benefit from the Health and Safety Program?

    Licensed and License-exempt family day care providers, assistants in a licensed family day care home, Child Care Center staff and directors, Nannies and Au Pairs providing child care in a facility located in Santa Clara County.

  • Can more than one staff person per child care facility be reimbursed for Health and Safety training?

    Yes. However, priority goes to one staff per facility and additional staff are reimbursed as funding allows. Reimbursements are on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • How much money can an applicant receive?

    Each applicant is required to pay a $5.00 co-pay for each eligible Health and Safety class. After satisfaction of the co-pay, reimbursement is up to $65.00 per person per funding cycle.

  • What is the funding cycle for this year's Health and Safety reimbursement program?

    Funding cycle runs from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. Health and Safety classes taken during this period of time are eligible for reimbursement for this year.

  • What Health and Safety classes are eligible?

    Infant Child CPR/First Aid, Infant/Child CPR re-certification, Preventative Health Practices, Injury Prevention, Prevention of Infectious Disease and Prevention Policies. The Pediatric CPR/First Aid and preventative practices training must be taken from an approved Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) training institution or trainer.

  • How can I find out if the training institution or trainer is EMSA approved?

    Contact the 4C Council Resource and Referral Department at (408) 487-0749 for a list of approved trainers and training institutions.

  • How do I apply for reimbursement?

    Complete a 4C Council Health and Safety Reimbursement application, include copies (front and back) of the valid card or certificate issued for the training, and a copy of the receipt for payment. Include your name and the name of the child care facility you are employed at. Mail to:
