Community Care Licensing
The following
are some tips in dealing with such issues as Discipline, Parental Access
to the Program, Physical Environment, and Complaints.
Discipline
It is not acceptable to subject children to corporal or unusual punishment
of any kind. This includes spanking, humiliation, mental abuse, or punitive
interference with such daily functions such as eating, sleeping or toileting.
Parental
Access to the Program
At any time during business hours, the parents must be allowed to visit
the program to which their child is enrolled.
Physical
Environment
All licensed child care centers are required to have a minimum of 35 square
feet of indoor space and 75 square feet of outdoor activity space per
child, based on the total licensed capacity. Any family day care home
is not subject to having a minimum square footage requirement. Requirements
also include
- How sturdy
and safe the indoor and outdoor equipment is
- The removal
of all potential safety hazards
- The reporting
of accidents, injuries and illness
All child
care centers and large family day care homes that are licensed for 12
children are subject to all local building, fire and zoning ordinances.
Complaints
Parents and others should direct all concerns and complaints about any child care program to Community Care Licensing for an investigation of the matter. When the complaint involves child abuse or other criminal behavior, Community Care Licensing has jurisdiction. However, it's possible that additional law enforcement agencies could get involved. Complaints can be made anonymously, and the individual who files a complaint has the right to be informed about the outcome of the investigation.
