CPR & First AID Requirements

CPR & First AID Requirements
It is a requirement for licensed Family Child Care Providers and Child Care Centers to have 15 hours of health, safety and CPR training. The training shall include:

  • Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Pediatric First Aid
  • Preventative Health Practices, including infectious disease recognition, management and prevention, immunizations, childhood injury prevention and maintaining a healthy staff

The training may also include:

  • Sanitary food handling
  • Child nutrition
  • Emergency preparedness and evacuation
  • Caring for children with special needs
  • Identifying and reporting signs and symptoms of child abuse

Such training must be taken from either the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association or a training program approved by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA). As a result of your training, you should be issued a Pediatric Basic Life Support card or a Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation card. Also required is proof and documentation of your completed training in preventive health practices.

The 4C Council reimburses Licensed and Exempt from Licensing Child Care Providers who successfully complete Pediatric CPR, Pediatric First Aid or approved classes in Preventative Health Practices.
