President Bill Clinton to Introduce Spingarn Medalist and 4Cs’ Champion Willie L. Brown, Jr., at NAACP Convention
Today, on July 18, 2018, at the 109th NAACP Convention, former President Bill Clinton will be introducing the new recipient of the Spingarn Medal, Willie Brown, Jr., who has not only served as Mayor of San Francisco for two terms, but has been a force of nature in California politics and government for over half a century.
Mr. Brown currently serves as 4Cs’ legal counsel, but in strict honesty, he has gone above and beyond this role. He has been a champion of our organization, devoting himself tirelessly to the cause of serving the providers, children, and families who make up our dynamic community.
For example, we were fortunate to have Mr. Brown fly back in to California from San Antonio, Texas, just this past Monday. He put everything aside, arranging to leave the NAACP Convention early, to attend an important meeting with officials from the California Department of Education (CDE) in regard to our funding. His presence helped us to shorten the current delay with our pay run, so that we could cover payments to our 1,300 childcare providers.
After that 8:30 AM meeting, Mr. Brown returned to Texas to attend the NAACP convention.
Today, he shall accept his well-deserved Spingarn Medal, one of the highest honors any influential African-American can expect to receive in his/her lifetime.
Congratulations Mayor Willie Brown! This is a tremendous achievement. The 4Cs community thanks you heartily for your immense devotion and support, and for making an immeasurable difference in the lives of thousands of families and childcare providers across Santa Clara County.
